Personality: Zelos is possibly the most irresponsible Chosen ever to woo Tethe'Alla's women. Due to events in his past, he feels the title of being the chosen as more of a burden than an honor. He holds his great internal conflicts and long standing pain inside himself, putting up a front of thingyy, immature indifference. He even accepts what many say: that he is worthless except for his charms.

Charms which he uses to great advantage. While his troubled childhood may have formed a mostly unfortunate narcissistic side of Zelos, he manages most of the time to show that side as a thingyy self-confidence. This coupled with his good looks and all of this shadowed over by the fact that he's the Chosen make him quite the successful skirt-chaser.

Many women try to use Zelos, which he returns with using of his own. He acts perverted, and gathers many women around him, who he showers with affection, calls his 'hunnies'... and accepts many gifts from. He has quite a high standard of living anyway, but with the addition of gifts from various girls, Zelos' life is quite comfortable. He takes these gifts in many forms, as well- he got through college by having his hunnies do his homework for him.

This does not mean, however, that Zelos is unintelligent. Though he is far from the best at many things, he is very good at Mathematics. Also, behind his outward appearance, Zelos is quite sharp, picking up on things about people in a way one might not expect.

Wrap all this up with the side of Zelos that loathes himself for taking away Tethe'alla's chances for a better chosen, and you've got quite the complicated man.

History: The last words Zelos' mother ever said were "You should never have been born."

Zelos' mother, Mylene, was told by the Oracle of Cruxis to marry his father (the Chosen of that generation), a man she did not love. Perhaps because of the lack of love between them, neither Zelos' mother or father gave him the attention and love a child needs. Instead, he was cared for by the butler Sebastian.

On top of this, Zelos' father's mistress- a half-elf - gave Zelos a half sister, Seles. They were friends until, after the death of their father, Seles' mother tried to kill Zelos. She knew that if he died, Seles would become the Chosen of Mana and have a better life. Unfortunately for her, Mylene was in the way.

Zelos states that the first time he saw snow, his snowman turned red halfway through. It was at this time that Mylene dealt Zelos a traumatic blow with her last words.

After this, Seles' mother was executed, and Seles herself sent to live in an abbey for the rest of her life. It is likely that Zelos blames his status as the Chosen for all of this. On top that, as he grew older, it became ever more obvious that Seles would have made a better Chosen.

She was stronger in heart and will, and would probably have been the best Chosen in decades. Zelos probably blames himself for not dying then, and being to weak to let himself die later. The knowledge that he cannot bring himself to live up to the duties of a chosen deepen his self-loathing.

Other Information: Zelos has a curious combination of prejudice and compassion for half-elves- having been brought up to see them as lower class, and his mother having been murdered by one. Despite this, he still exerted his influence to stop the pope's radical anti-half elf actions.
