The wind chimed through the trees, catching a slight drift that lifted the leaves up. With a twirl of nature, the cascading green leaves that had fallen prematurely from the trees. The sun barely touches the top of the world, as it glints down through the tree branches; giving it a certain slant of light that glows. The small animals that live there crawl around, their nose sniffing out a usual presence but yet an unusual one as well. The crunches of leaves are evident in the air, the sound resonating in the slight music that the forest gives off. Soon off in the distance you can hear the sound of an axe hitting against a tree, the small grunts that come from a figure as he cuts down his fifth.
The dwarf gives one more swing before cutting right through the tree, when he was younger this would have been just one clean cut; but with old age catching up to him it has become impossible for him. Wiping away the sweat that is running down his tan forehead, he wipes his hand against his brown pants to get rid of the sweat from his hand. Setting his axe down, he leans on it to relax a bit; he needs this wood to do his job but every day was becoming difficult for him. Putting his axe against a tree, he rummages around in his pouch that hangs on his waist to pull out a maroon pipe. Using his other hand to take a black pouch from his right waist; he empties the content into the hole in the pipe and gets out a match. Feeling the black bag, he sighs; he’s running out of tobacco as well.
Guess I’ll be needen to go to town
Striking the match against a tree, the match comes a light. Carefully he puts it near the tobacco located in the pipe, sucking in the pipe he is able to get the pipe lighted. Blowing out a puff of smoke, he runs his hand across his gray beard that is turning white with thoughtfulness. Looking up to the sky he takes another puff from his pipe to exhale the gray smoke.
I think I’ll go today, tis still day time and around noon. I think I’ll be in Meltokio by sun down and can stay there at the inn for the night before heading back again. I should be home by noon. Taking a few more puffs, he grabs axe before swinging it onto his shoulders. Knowing that no one would disturb his cut down wood, he headed back to his little shack near the woods. Keeping a good grip on his axe, he kept his eye open--only one since he had long ago lost it to a monster and ever since then he has never let his guard down when he enters the forest. Taking a few more puffs, he exhales the gray smoke to empty the pipe and put it back into his pouch. Letting his hand fall down to his side; his muscle contracts as his pace quickens. Rena & Vince Finding their way...
"Oniisan!" a little girl shrieked happily as she skipped up the path, leaning back against the curve to wait for her brother to catch up. "Come on! You're so slow~!"
The older boy sighed with humor, and groaned, "Rena... oh Rena... I wish I had your energy..."
He was slumped over with his arms hanging lifelessly as he slowly paced up the cliffside, panting. When he got to where she was, Rena clasped her hands behind her back, smiling cutely as she rocked back and forth on her heels. "Well... come on, let's keep going." "Okay~! I can't wait to get to the top!" she squealed, letting out a high-pitched shriek of excitement that echoed all the way to the top of the trail. "Imoto... can I borrow some energy?" her older brother laughed dryly. Though, Rena didn't seem to make it as a joke, and bounded back down to him, gripping his hand with both of her tiny ones. Smiling up at him, she then looked down and fixed her gaze on his hand, her expression intensening with every second passing. Finally she broke away, stumbling back a few steps and panting lightly. "Did it work?" she giggled. He smiled sadly; she was such a pure, innocent child. He then stretched and flexed a few of his muscles with newfound energy. "I think it did!" he laughed.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Briar rests his hand on a tree as he catches his breath, completely exhausted after walking all the way to his hut after cutting a few trees and walking all the way back through the forest a ways from the trail that leads up to the Fooji Mountains. Putting a hand to his axe that hangs from his back, he glances around the area with cautiousness. Pushing away from the tree, he puts his hands on his hips taking one last deep breath before continuing on to Meltokio. Putting on foot before the other, he puts a hand to his heart when he hears a high pitched scream. Looking up that trail, he slightly panics at the sound.
A young traveler must be up those trails, and got caught by surprise by a monster. Hmmmmm should I check it out or continue on to Meltokio? If I check it out she could be dead before I get there, and have to take camp in the mountains for the night before I can go to Meltokio or doom the kid.
Briar cursed to himself softly as he let his soft heart get in the way of going to Meltokio. Sighing a bit he heads north, heading for the trails with new found energy. Making sure the latch on his axe is loose enough for him to grab quickly if needed be. Letting his boots hit the dirt trail with great force he runs up the trail, hoping if there is a problem that he gets there in time. He can’t help but have a soft spot for little children, especially ones that in trouble.
"This better not be a waste me time..." Briar grumbles to himself on his way up the trail.

Dancing around excitedly, Rena hurried higher up the trail, leaning back against the corner once again to wait for her brother. "Vince!" she giggled. "You're so slooooooow!"
"Your legs are newer than mine!" he wearily called in reply. "I'm not as fast as you are when I'm not on adrenaline!" He tried to use the energy that Rena had given him to run and catch up to her, though he tripped and fell right in front of her. "You wouldn't mind giving me a little of that healing power of yours, would you Imôto?"
Rocking back and forth on her heels, Rena nodded and pulled out her flying top. Winding it up and stringing the tie through as she began to cast, a circle of light appeared around her and she opened her eyes, gripping tightly on the tie and crying, "Are you ready?"
She then pulled the tie out quickly, where the two pieces split apart and the energy formed between them. "First Aid!" Vince felt a burst of energy flowing back into him, and let out a breath of relief. "Thanks," he replied, getting back up and brushing himself off. Rena then looked up the path, and saw a short stalky man heading down it. "Oniisan, look!" she whispered to her brother, tugging on his sleeve. "Helloooo?" she called, waving with her other hand.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

After slowing down from his run he looked at the two half-elves making their way up the trail. He breaths in irritated with the fact that the two seem to be just fine. Giving a throaty cough, he walks down the trail slowly to the two; chewing at the side of his cheek with agitation. Once getting to their level he looks up at the young boy with a sniff, as he scratches his nose.
“So it seems ya are fine,” he says looking at the two carefully, before looking down at the kid with a slight smile before it turned back to his face. “Whatcha doing all way over here? It be dangerous for little children be traveling around here, it may look peaceful but it be dangerous cause of the monsters here.”
He had been a little scared that the little girl was hurt, but he wouldn’t admit it. So it would seem that the girls cry was not of help but glee from the look of happiness on the child’s face. Wiping his face his hand, he looks at the two carefully before setting his hand on his hip. He grunts at dissatisfaction of the boy towering over him, that’s why he likes kids; cause then he doesn’t have to feel short.

Rena stared at the dwarf with large, interested eyes. She'd never seen one before, despite all of thier traveling. The underground race only very rarely showed thier faces above ground, and if they did they still lived in isolation. But this guy, he was a total outdoorsman, it seemed. Big and strong--and about her height, too! Her look of facination turned to one of excitement, and she gripped her older brother's sleeve tighter.
"Um, yes. We're just fine," Vince replied, giving a little nod to the dwarf man. When asked what they were doing there--a question he and Rena had heard from people all too often. He was going to say that they were there to stay in hiding a while, to try and escape pursecution for a few days until they ran out of food, but he was hesitant, for he knew that it was impossible to trust anyone. Even some dwarves had hatred agaisnt half-elves. So he simply replied, "We're... searching her herbs. It's said that there are very good healing herbs at the top of this mountain, and we're here to get some. My little sister here is an aspiring healer." After those last few words, he realized he might have said something wrong, letting on that she could use magic, but then again there were healers who just used herbs, right?
Rena realized Vince's intentions, and suddenly became a little fearful, clinging even harder to her brother's sleeve. But he looked like a decent guy... hard-working, isolated from the modern world. And it was said that dwarves lived a long time... so maybe he hadn't known much about the half-elf persecution? Something told her that she was to be doubted on that assumption, though.

Briar gave a thoughtful look, as he ran his hand through his beard. He could definitely tell the hesitance in the boys reply, but he had a feeling that it was merely out of protection of his sister and himself. Pursing his lips, he gave a small shake of the head.
“Dwarven vow #11: Lying is the first step to the path of thievery. I know ya two are half-elves, but I got nothing against ya two. Now tell me the real reason ya two are here, it not be good for two children to be here. It’s dangerous.” He says with a rough voice, but still trying to give gentleness to it so as to not alarm them.
Putting a hand on his hip, he looks at the two carefully. Looking at Rena he gives a small smile.
“I’m sure ya healing spells are very helpful, but as ya older brother had said ya only a trainee.”He says with a sigh and a frown, man did he feel like he was lecturing these two but it was for their only good.
Looking up at the sun, he notices that it will be dusk in about half an hour. Just getting up to the top would take two hours, so then the two would be stuck up in the mountains for the night. The nights in the mountains are not so pleasant considering the cold temperatures up there.
“Tis almost dusk, I would head down if I was ya. Nights in the mountain aren’t very nice,” He says before turning his back at them and heading down the trail back to his hut, knowing that those two probable had been alone their whole life. So he knew that they could survive on their own, but he could help but fell a bit guilty for leaving so abruptly.

The siblings felt a stab of guilt, and yet relief at the same time as the dwarf said his words. Rena tugged on her brother's sleeve, with those large amethyst eyes of hers, and said something inaudiable to him. Vince then nodded, and looked up at the powerful dwarf again. "We were going to see if there was a good place to hide up here, but it seems to be too dangerous and rocky, as you've already said, sir..."
As the man smiled at her, Rena giggled excitedly a bit, blushed, and dug her face deeper into her brother's sleeve. "I know I'm not all that good, anyway," she admitted, smiling. "I can only really use First Aid." Though, her smile faded as he turned around and began to trek back up the mountain. "Wait! Please wait," the little girl then called. Vince knocked his sister on the head lightly with the back of his fist. "Rena, don't bother him." "But--! Oniisan!" She pleaded, tugging on his sleeve again. She then turned to the dwarf again and called, "Do you... know of any herbs here, anyway?"[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Briar stops in his tracks as he stands there because of the girl's call. Turning around he looks at the little girl and the young man with a blink.
"Ah...well there is this one herb that I know of that works well with sores. I'm sure it would be usfull to you two, with all your travels that is." He says to Rena, with a soft smile. "It's a shrub that grows high up in the Fooji Mountains, they're not hard to miss. Specially with the clashing colors of main blue and the red tipping. Though it is very poisones to injest, if you ground it up and place it on a sore part of your body. The pain eases away, so be carefull with it; ya hear?"
Looking up with a sigh, as he places his hands on his hips he looks up at the sky. The sun slowly starting to dip behind the other mountains near by, the twilight starting to appear and the darkness that follows after. Looking back at the two, he looks at the with concern.
"If I was you, I'd turn back now. Tis about time for the sun to come down and the nights on the moutains are not pleasent." he says with his rough tone. [/blockquote]

As the dwarf spoke of the herb, Rena's eyes widened, and began to shine as she brightened intensely, though for Vince, he cringed. Oh crap, he thought. She's going to drag me all the way up there... isn't she?!
Once he finished, Rena immediately turned back to Vince and looked up at him excitedly, tugging on his jacket as she jumped up and down. "ONIISAN! Can we go get some?! Please?! PLEASE?! I really want some of that!!"
Vince looked in the other direction ironically. I KNEW IT... He was a total sucker when it came to that excited face of hers. He could take the puppy dog eyes, but when she was excited he pretty much couldn't say no. "Well... I guess we can head up there, and then find a place to camp out for the night..." he sighed. "YAY! Oniisan, you're the best!" the small girl squealed, breaking off from his side and twirling around happily. Though, she fell over, though giggled like she didn't care. She then got back onto her feet and continued. Vince then looked back up at the man. "Don't worry, sir, we'll be fine on our own up here. We're tougher than you might think," he said, smiling sadly.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Briar gave a nod of the head, knowing that they should be fine. After all the two obviously had been on their own for most of their life and so far they are alive; so he would assume that they can take care of themselves on their own. Sighing he flashes a smile towards the little girl, before giving a light punch towards the young man.
“I hear ya, be careful ya two.” He says roughly but with a light heartedness to it. Quickly look to the side to catch the position of the sun and calculating as to how long it would take him to go down and back to his hut and to if he would make it before sunset. Mauling it over, he gave a nod once getting the calculations done. It would seem he would be down there long before the sun sets, thinking it over once more he gave the conclusion that if he heads towards his cut down tree he would make it back as the sun sets. Turning to the two youngsters, he gave a smile as he heads back down trail giving a wave to the two.
“Ah, My name is Briar by the way.” He hollers towards the two, completely forgetting that he never mentioned his name. He feels embarrassed at such an action, right when he had finally met some people for so many weeks. Interaction with living people, and he forgets to give his name.
Shaking his head for being a fool, he merely walks down the trail. His hand trailing in his beard, trying to untangle the unruly beard of his. His mind flashing to what type of weapons he can work on, getting a list of items he would need and how he would go about his day tomorrow. End of posting

Rena smiled as the dwarf approoved of thier action, and was relieved that they wouldn't have to be stopped for any reason. It seems he guessed their usual troubles, which she could honestly respect. "T-Thank you!"
she chirped, trying to contain her excitement. Vince let out a dry chuckle at his sister's gleefulness, and then continued thier way up the path, signaling for her to follow. It seems the dwarf had a bit of a soft side for kids, and especially cute little Rena. It seemed that her childish innocense could charm anyone... Rena listened closely as the dwarf gave her his name, and she replied happily, "Nice to meet you! I'm Rena, and my brother is Vince!" she then twirled around on one foot as she caught up with her brother, grabbing his sleeve and hanging off of it as she walked sideways up the cliff. He shooed her off, though, and she pouted and walked on her own two feet up the cliffside. ooc//sorry it's inhunanly late XDD[/blockquote][/blockquote]
